The fourth annual Brian Adams Fishing with a Cop event reeled in just under 30 borough children this year with law enforcement officials from the Bucks County Sheriff’s office, Morrisville Borough Police Department and officers from the Bristol Borough Police Department with Bristol Borough officials from the school board and council also attending.

The event is named in memoriam of former Mill Street business owner Brian Adams of Trainpops Attic, who passed away in 2021 after a long bout with cancer. Sgt. Chuck Palmer said the union renamed the event, in Adams’ honor because of his tireless dedication in helping the Bristol Borough Police Benevolent Association (BBPA) bring events to borough’s children. Adams not only donated his services and funds to past events, Palmer said he went “above and beyond” the call when asked.

The event is sponsored by the Bristol Borough Police Association in conjunction with the support of council who have approved the event since Palmer suggested the fishing with a cop idea several years ago as way for officers to connect with borough children 12 and under. He has said in the past fishing was instrumental in keeping him out of  “trouble” when he was growing up.

Free fishing equipment, if needed, was provided to young anglers. One father who attended with his sons was unaware the fishing rods, bait, and other equipment could be kept for good. When Palmer explained the equipment was for the family to keep, one of man’s sons said “cool.”

Young anglers also learned the value of “catch and release fishing” which is the official fishing policy at the lagoon.

Hours after the bait, rods and tackle were put away until next years’ event, Palmer, in post to one of the most popular Bristol Borough Meta pages, said:

What a great day it turned out to be. Thankful the weather held off. So many people stepped up and donated equipment, food, gift cards and time to help make this happen. Special thanks to DJ Jose Chepo Rivera , Bart’s Tackle , King George, Great ID’S by Ann and Penelope Fox Art Studio . Huge thank you to Jim Adams , Bill Cronon , John Driscoll and of course my beautiful and amazing wife Julia Palmer for taking the day and helping out. Thank you Sheriff Christina Brewerton Delgado, her partner Zeke, and Sheriff Christian Hellyer. Morrisville Boro Chief of police Richard Ciampa and his son and of course all of our officers who showed up. I am sure I missed someone so sorry if I did. Last thank you is to the kids and their parents. Everyone had a great time and kids were awesome. Looking forward to next year already.
