Updated: New Jersey Man Pointed Gun at Bristol Officer Jailed After Shots Fired Reports

Shazir Burrell 23, of Burlington County, New Jersey was arraigned by covering District Judge Joanne Kline on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, hindering apprehension, evading arrest and related offenses. He was remanded to the custody of Bucks County Correctional Facility as he was unable to post the $50,000.00 bail set by Judge Kline.

According to court records, at around 10:25 Borough Police Tuesday night were dispatched for multiple reports of gunfire in the alleyway around Race and and Spruce Streets. Officers were advised by county dispatch that there were two suspects, both described as black males dressed in all black wearing ski masks and were reportedly running in an alley towards Buckley Street.

Officer Tehan, according to court records turned onto Buckley St from Bath Street and and saw two black males fitting the suspect description  provided. Officer Tim McNamara and Tehan stopped  their police vehicles next to the reported suspects who took off  in different directions.  The smaller of the two, in height, fled towards Bath St holding his waistband as he ran. The talled suspect who was wearing white sneakers, police say ran towards Beaver Street before turning left onto Race St.

Both officers continued the pursuit on foot after the suspect ran towards a small clearing at 208 Buckley St pulling their weapons as he came towards police. He was commanded to put his hands in the air and get on the ground. He was taken into custody and subsequently searched for weapons  in which none were found, police said.

Police identified the suspect as Burrell who was read his miranda rights. He denied having a gun and shooting anyone, police said in court records.

Tehan in the probable cause alleged Burrell pointed the what was later to be determined a Glock handgun at him during the police pursuit.

Middletown Township Police K-9 unit arrived on scene to search the area for a gun.

Shortly thereafter, according to the criminal complaint, police discovered the  Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun in close proximity to a 200 block Buckley Street home.

Police said the second suspect fled the area, however,  law enforcement source told Lower Bucks Source an arrest warrant was in the process of being prepared by authorities.

Bristol Borough Police arrested one man early after a reported incident involving gun fire.

At around 10:40  p.m. hour residents on Race and and Spruce Streets reportedly heard gunshots fired. .

A video posted to the Neighbors Ring website shows an exchange between a resident and a  Borough Police and buried in the sound a gunshot rings out before the officer races off.

Police cordoned off a section of Buckley Street beginning at the corner of Clymer Street to investigate.

Sources told Lower Bucks Source police located a handgun on Clymer St.

Chief of Police Joe Moors said the suspect was arrested and will be arraigned Wednesday morning at Bristol Borough District Court by covering District Judge Joanne Kline.

Moors declined to provide the suspect’s name and potential charges.

He said there is an active investigation taking place and a “weapon was recovered.”

More information will become available subsequent to yet to be scheduled arraignment, the chief said.

No injuries were reported, Moors said.
