Man Shot Outside Fed Courthouse in Philadelphia, Has Pending Case in Bristol Borough

The knife-wielding Bristol man shot outside Federal Court house two times in Philadelphia Tuesday, has a pending case for cutting cable wires in Bristol Borough for no apparent reason

Anthony Lombardo 53 was charged with three felony counts of criminal mischief-tampering with property and three felony counts for theft of services, court records show. In three distinct incidents beginning in August of 2021 and culminating on December 1 of the same year he is alleged to have tampered with cable wires  near and around his residence on the 900 block of Pearl Street, Lower Bucks Source reported last April.

Sources distinctly familiar with Lombardo said his motivation for the cable wire cutting stems from a long battle with a behavioral health condition. Multiple community sources contacted Lower Bucks Source after his April 2021 arrest to say Lombardo, does have a long history of mental health issues and those challenges were the real reason he pursued cutting any and all cable wires near his home.

In the 2022 criminal complaint filed by Bristol Borough Police there was no mention directly or indirectly.

Lombardo was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on January 4 in Bristol Borough District Court. It was the fourth time, according to online county records the hearing was rescheduled, his attorney,  Ronald H. Elgart, Esq. in that case said he  was engaged in negotiations with authorities on resolving the case at the district court level but”that’s probably out the window now.”

In the 2022 criminal complaint filed by Bristol Borough Police there was no mention directly or indirectly of any mental health issue as a contributor in the that case.

Elgart said he’s had a history of problems in that area, and as investigators search for rhyme or reason as to why he went after a security guard outside the courthouse, he felt his “problems” has to be a contributing factor.

Lombardo’s next court date in Bristol has been postponed until further notice, he said.

“He’s in the hospital with two gun shot wounds and heavily sedated right now” the attorney said Friday.

Lombardo on Tuesday is alleged to have parked in front of the federal courthouse on 7th Street between Market and Arch Streets. Lombardo parked his white Dodge Caravan in an unauthorized area on the east side of 7th street.  A security officer approached the vehicle As the officer approached him, Lombardo allegedly got out of the van with a large knife in his hand. Investigators said Lombardo then approached the officer who pulled out his service weapon and opened fire wounding him, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Lombardo then began pulling out an unknown object from his sleeve, according to officials. The officer then opened fire again, shooting Lombardo a second time, published reports say.

Lombardo is said to be have been wearing body armor underneath his clothing when he was shot, Tuesday.

United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced  Wednesday Lombardo, has been charged by criminal complaint and warrant with attempting to murder and forcibly assault, intimidate, and interfere with, a federal law enforcement officer. Lombardo remains hospitalized and in federal custody.

A motive for Tuesday’s attack has yet to be determined.

Attempts to reach Bristol Borough Police for comment about past police contacts with Lombardo were unsuccessful.
