The Pennsylvania Office of State Inspector General has charged a Morrisville woman with one felony count of fraud to obtain food stamps.

According to the Inspector General’s office, and court records, Cheryl Porter, one week short of her 50th birthday signed and submitted a COMPASS application for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (SNAP), acknowledging her reporting responsibilities.

Investigators said they verified Porter’s place of work and income, however discovered through a Department of Human Services database, she did not report a family member’s income or employment status, according to court records. Investigators said the family member appeared to be employed at Bristol Township facility for Urban Outfitters and since September of 2022, earning just over $9500.00. Porther, authorities say didn’t report the income on her energy assistance (AKA LIHEAP) application as she is legally bound to do.

State Investigators reviewed SNAP transcripts and records revealing from September 1 November 30, Porter received just under $1500.00 in SNAP benefits “fraudulently.”  Had she reported her family member’s income from their warehouse job she wouldn’t have qualified for the benefits, authorities said.

Porter was summoned to court by mail and she is scheduled for a December 20 preliminary hearing in Bristol Township District Court.
