After more than 28 years of service to the community, Bristol Borough Police Sgt. Peter Faight retired Friday afternoon surrounded by family/loved ones, law enforcement professionals current and past.

Bristol Borough officials held a private banquet for Faight before he signed off for good at approximately 12:30 p.m. while the sun pounded the pavement, much in the same way, the retiring Sgt. would search for suspects or solve crimes.

Faight who is a Bristolian loomed large in police department that covered a Borough 2 miles by one mile, because size-wise he was the tallest officer in the department stature wise.

Chief of Police Joe Moors thanked Faight for his years of “dedicated service to Bristol Borough.”

Throughout his career, Moors said, Faight exemplified professionalism and an unwavering commitment to public service.

Faight’s leadership have made a lasting impact on the department for generations to come, Moors said.

Always with a funny quip or a snarky comment, Faight was “respected” in the Borough he patrolled.

Known to many simply as “Sgt Pete,” residents would reach out to him regularly because he provided direct and honest feedback.

Faight, after the “last call” ceremony, said he knew it was his time to move on because the mind was willing but the body, not so much.

Faight said that when you get to a certain age you’re going to end up getting hurt on hurting someone else because you’re not capable of doing the job anymore.

“Mentally I’m there but physically i’m slowing down. My muscles and bones hurt,” he said explaining his reasoning for retiring.

As to what’s ahead for him, Faight said he didn’t know but he was going to spend time with his “huge family” and something “will creep up and when it does I’ll take advantage of it.”

Faight’s contributions to the department will not be forgotten, Moors said, he leaves a legacy of service behind him future generations will to come know of and be inspired by.

Just as the signing off ceremony was coming to a close a borough resident approached, Faight, put his hand out and said “thanks” and “you’ll be missed.”

Bristol Borough officials thanked Faight and his family for his faithful service and wished them health and happiness in the future.

Editor’s Note: Bristol Borough will holding a retirement ceremony for Sgt Carlos Rivera on June 30 around 12:00 pm in front of the police department entrance. The community is welcome to attend.
