It was a K-9 kind of night at the Bristol Township Council meeting with one local organization donating funds to the unit and the announcement of a police dog’s retirement after 10 years of service.
The John Billington VFW Post 6495 and Auxiliary presented a $5000.00 check to Bristol Township Police Department’s K9 Unit.
Corporal Josh Bausch said he met “Katie” from the VFW Post about a year ago and she inquired if there was any way the John Billington VFW Post could help the K-9 unit. A discussion led to the formation of the Bristol Township K-9 Foundation, a non-profit entity created to support the unit.
Bausch and Officer Gage Cvijic (his fellow officer and also a K-9 handler) helped to create the foundation.
This is the first check being deposited on the foundation’s behalf with the funds helping to offset costs the K-9 unit incurs which saves the department and township overall some money, Bausch said.
Township officials, the police department, and the council are sincerely grateful for the donation, according to the corporal.

In the second news item K-9 Axel has officially retired.
Axel began his career in 2016 with Ofc. Dave Wiser, earning certifications in patrol and narcotics through the Philadelphia K-9 Academy. In 2018, he was paired with his longtime partner, Bausch, and continued his training at the New Jersey State Police Canine Academy. Together, they maintained national certification and served not only Bristol Township but also all of Bucks County.
Axel’s work has made a real impact, Lt. Mark Titus said. Axel has assisted with major narcotics seizures, tracked and apprehended suspects, and supported countless investigations. In 2024, Axel and Bausch joined the SWAT team, where Axel served for the rest of his career.
His accomplishments earned him the 2024–2025 K-9 Law Enforcement Award from the John Billington VFW Post #6495 and recognition from Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.
Beyond enforcement, Axel built strong connections in the community. Through school visits and public events, he helped thousands of residents—especially children—feel comfortable and engaged with law enforcement. Axel’s service, loyalty, and steady presence made a lasting difference, Titus said.
