The Bristol Township Police Department is hiring new officers, only this time its reaching out to hyper local media organizations in the hopes of expanding the applicant pool.

Late last month the department announced it was holding a written test on September 14, with an eye towards employment offers going out with the approval of the township for 2025, Sgt Jason Mancuso said.

“We’re giving a test on September 14 and we’re hoping to hire an additional number of officers for next year”.

Potential applicants can scan the flyer’s QR code (below) which will take them to an online application, they can fill out or come in with the completed application and a check or money for $35 with their state issued I.D. and they can take the written test he said.

If the QR code scanning doesn’t work for some reason, applicants can come to police headquarters, 2501 Bath Road and ask for a paper application, he said.

What we’re really looking to do is get a bigger pool of candidates, especially from our local community. A lot of potential applicants might have been intimidated to take the test before or they didn’t know we were hiring. This is the first time we’re reaching out to the community and beyond with a police officer hiring campaign, Mancuso said.

The application deadline is set for August 28.

If you are already a working police officer (part time or full time) in another municipality, Mancuso said, the written test is not a requirement in this instance since those officers have already received ACT 120 clearances. What you will have to do is pass the physical which requires running 1/4 mile in 110 seconds and under; a body drag of 50 feet; scaling a 4-foot chain link fence.

We’re really looking to hire new officers who see the role as making a contribution to the community. Bristol Township wants to make sure anyone who’s thought about becoming a police officer knows we’re hiring, Mancuso said.

In the last three years the township has hired about 35 police officers, according to published reports and township records.

In 2013 and 2014, the economic health of the township was in question and cutbacks were included on police staffing, this writer covered as part of LevittownNow.com.

The application deadline is August 28, 2024. A prerequisite to apply for a Bristol Twp police officer position is a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). There is also a background check completed before offers of employment are sent out, Mancuso said.
