Before Tuesday afternoon’s explosion at the Bristol Health and Nursing Facility, a third floor fire damaged a colonial era home in Bristol Township that was saved from further damage because providers from the Levittown- Fairless Hills Rescue Squad reported smoke coming from the building.

Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday morning Levittown Fire Company #2 was dispatched for a dwelling fire on Red Cedar Drive, in the Levittown section of Bristol Township.

Fire Fighters arrived on scene to find a 3 story home built in the early 1700’s showing smoke from the third floor.

Fire fighters advanced through handlines to the third floor after securing a water supply, finding fire running in the knee-walls of the dwelling. Crews opened up the area and quickly extinguish the fire, said Levittown #2 fire officials.

Fire fighters, said officials, laddered over the building and placed a ventilation hole in the roof, putting out the fire within 45 minutes.

Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said residents and pets evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.

The fire was caused by wiring in the knee-wall on the third floor and the home is insured, Dippolito said.
