A Wyoming County man is facing assault charges in an April incident at a Croydon gas station in which he attacked Lower Bucks Source Publisher, Jeff Bohen who was heading home after he had photographed a wedding for a friend and her husband at the VFW.
On April 12, 2025, at approximately 6:33 p.m., officers from the Bristol Township Police Department were dispatched to the Sunoco gas station located at 503 State Road following a report of an assault in the parking lot, police said.
Upon their arrival, police spoke with Bohen whose mouth was bloodied. Bohen reported that he had been assaulted by the driver of a dark colored Dodge pickup truck.
According to his account, the Dodge pursued him at a high rate of speed, and drove into the Sunoco parking lot. The driver exited the vehicle and assaulted him by striking him multiple times with a closed fist through the driver’s side window. The assailant was pulled away by his female passenger and the pickup fled the gas station towards Bensalem before police arrived.
A witness at the scene described the suspect as a white male, approximately six feet tall, with gray hair, wearing a hat and glasses. The witness said that the suspect exited a Dodge pickup truck and physically assaulted Bohen until the suspect was pulled away by the female passenger.
Bohen, who was running out of gas, was driving on State Road after leaving the wedding ceremony at the Charles Schumacher when the suspect brake-stopped in front of him on State Rd three times before going around him just before the Cedar Ave State Road intersection.
Bohen, took several pictures of the pickup as it fled the gas station providing the vehicle’s registration which was traced to 58 year-old Charles Smith of Tunkhannock, PA
A JNET photo of Smith matches the descriptions provided by both Bohen and the witness.
Bohen also submitted a written statement consistent with his earlier account of the incident. Video surveillance footage capturing the assault was obtained and secured as evidence, according to the affidavit.
“I am truly grateful for the work and professionalism of the Bristol Twp Police Department and Officer Mark Lopez-Shefcyk, and the witness who came forward, in handling this matter and getting the case filed,” Bohen said.
Smith has been summoned to appear before Judge Finello for a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 10 at Bristol Borough District Court.
