With gusts forecasted to reach 40 mph in the Lower Bucks County area on Thursday, Emergency Services Reporter Ron Roberts was keenly aware of the potential hazardous conditions the community and area first responders could be facing.
At around 2 p.m. potentiality became reality as a tree, wires and a pole narrowly missed crushing passing vehicles on the 7300 block of New Falls Road. The driver of a vehicle that struck the downed tree was not injured and was able to extricate himself on his own power, officials said.
Firefighters were initially dispatched to the scene for reported wire sparking but found no active arching or sparking. Once the sparking hazard was cleared, PECO secured the severed electrical line from a street light on a downed pole. After utility crews ensured any electrical hazards were no longer present, a police officer retrieved the car for the driver, Roberts said.
New Falls Rd remained closed into the evening rush between Five Points and Red Cedar Drive, Roberts said, while works crews removed the tree from the roadway and utility crews from PECO and Xfinity worked to restore their damaged lines.
