SEPTA officials say an investigation has been launched into a train car fire that occurred Tuesday morning while boarding and unboarding passengers during morning rush hour.

Andrew Busch, SEPTA’s director of media relations, told Lower Bucks Source about 100 passengers were on board at the time when plumes of smoke emerged from the train at the Tullytown stop on the Trenton Regional Rail line.

Passengers were safely evacuated and the fire involved one rail car. Firefighters didn’t have to spray water on the train with the smoky conditions dissipating after the power was shut off, Busch said.

Tullytown and Edgely Fire Companies were dispatched to the scene. First responders set up command and secured power fire officials said.

SEPTA is investigating the incident, Busch said.

The Trenton Line which provides service from N.J. to Philadelphia makes five stops in Lower Bucks County: Levittown, Bristol, Croydon, Eddington, and Cornwell Heights. And it is quite possibly the line will be killed off, officials say, due to structural deficit issues and under funding.
