Smoke Alarm Call turns into Roof Fire Response at Bucks County Office Center

Third District Fire Company

A smoke alarm sounding off called out Third District firefighters who discovered a small roof fire they knocked back quickly and efficiently using 30 gallons of water to put the fire out, first responders said.

Firefighters were dispatched to the Bucks County Office Center located in the 1200 block of Veterans Highway at 2:42 p.m. Sunday afternoon for a triggered fire alarm.

Roofers using a torch while doing apparent repair work accidentally started a small fire, attempting to put it out with a fire extinguisher. Third District Fire Chief Howard McGoldrick said the fire company used 30 gallons of water to put the fire out, using a 1 3/4 attack line, leaving the structure with minimal water damage.

Firefighters checked the building for fire spread and provided ventilation for lingering smoke, fire officials said.

Third District was the only fire company dispatched because, on arrival, the fire was contained to a small area on the roof, being handled with a competent crew on the response and observing a box assignment was not required, McGoldrick said.

No one was injured at the fire, fire officials said.
