Man Wanted as Person of Interest in Township Homicide, Arrested on Drug Offenses

A Philadelphia man identified as a person of interest in a Bristol Township homicide was taken into custody and charged with two drug related offenses early Thursday morning.

Brian Joseph Carey, 41  was arraigned on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia by Magisterial District Judge Lisa J. Gaier and is being held at Bucks County Correctional Facility under $750,000 bail, 10 percent.

The homicide investigation remains active and ongoing, officials said.

On Wednesday, the District Attorney’s Office and Bristol Township Police put out an alert for Carey as a person of interest in the killing of his stepfather, 78-year-old Joseph Michael Jakimowicz.

Police were dispatched at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday night to a home in the 700 block of Winder Drive and located Jakimowicz deceased inside.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Carey as a person of interest and put out an alert to find him and the victim’s silver 2006 Chevy Trailblazer, which he was believed to be driving. The victim’s vehicle was later recovered Wednesday in Philadelphia and with police saying Carey switched vehicles and was now driving a big red truck.

The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the public for providing and sharing information that helped to quickly locate Carey, and troopers with the State Police-Dublin Barracks for taking him into custody.

The homicide is under investigation by Bucks County Detectives and the Bristol Township Police Department. Deputy District Attorney Edward Louka is assigned for prosecution.

Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact Bucks County Detectives at 215-348-6354 or Bristol Township Detectives at 215-785-4040. They can also submit a tip at Bucksda.org.
