At last weeks Bristol Township Council meeting “Glasson Grants” were distributed to first responder stations and crews as has become customary in recent years to supplement fire and  emergency services..

Council President Craig Bowen explained how the grants came to fruition to those who were new to the meeting.

Over the years what happened was the fire companies receive funding from the casinos but we needed to improve the township infrastructure and some of that money was taken away from first responders and used for roadway work that needed to be done, he said.

Bowen said the funds for the first responders come from the townships general fund, and we’re doing everything we can to strengthen our fire and emergency services.

The grant’s are named after Councilman Joe Glasson, by former Council President Bob Lewis, officials explained recently.

Glasson is a lifetime firefighter who advocated for additional funds to go to the fire and rescue squads.

Croydon Fire Company, Edgely Fire Company, Levittown Fire Company No. 2, Newportville Fire Company and Third District Fire Compan, Levitown -Fairless Hills Rescue Squad and The Bucks County Rescue Squad were all presented with checks at the meeting for $25,000 said Township Manager Randee Elton.

Bowen noted that the casino grant money is expected to flow into the township again, soon.

“Anything a fire company needs we will be here for you” he said. “You’re all a real asset to Bristol Township
