3-Car Wreck leads to Woman Having Arm Amputated, Several Hospitalized

A three-vehicle smash up on Route 1 sent several people to the hospital with one woman needing her arm amputated, officials said.

On Wednesday, September 27, at  around 2:10 pm. Falls Township Police were dispatched to the area of US Route One South, a quarter mile north of the Oxford alley Road Exit, to investigate a three vehicle accident involving entrapment and injuries, officials said.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 44 year old male resident of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, operating a Jeep Cherokee, was following a Honda coupe, operated by a 28 year old male resident of Trenton, New Jersey, at an unsafe distance as they both traveled in the left lane,  Falls Twp Police Lt Chris Clark said.
The operator of the Jeep Cherokee then passed the Honda coupe by utilizing the right lane after which he pulled in front of the Honda Coupe in the left lane.
The operator of the Honda coupe then entered into the left shoulder and appeared to attempt to overtake the Jeep Cheorkee during which time he lost control of his vehicle and collided with the Jeep Cherokee. Clark said.
As a result of the collision both vehicles entered the right lane during which time a Honda minivan, with five male and female residents of Trenton, New Jersey, collided with the Honda coupe sending both vehicles off the road into the wooded area of US Route One South. said authorities.
All five occupants of the Honda minivan were taken to a combination of Capital Health, Jefferson Bucks and Saint Mary Medical Center. A female victim, believed to be in her twenties, had her right arm amputated just below her shoulder and was later flown to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for advanced treatment. No other injuries were critical. said Clark
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was uninjured while the the driver of the Honda Coupe was transported to Saint Mary Medical Center for minor injuries, said authorities
Alcohol, drugs or a medical emergency are not believed to be factors in causation.
