Wed Morning Crash Disables Pennsbury School Bus, SUV, Was Possibly Caused by Motorist Falling Asleep at the Wheel, Police Say

A motorist reportedly falling asleep at the wheel, caused a Wednesday morning crash with a Pennsbury School District Bus with no students and no injuries luckily to either driver Falls Township Police say.

The crash happened at approximately 8:50 a.m. with Falls Township Police responding to the 100 block of Makefield Road to investigate a two vehicle accident involving a Pennsbury School Bus.

Police conducted a preliminary investigation during which time it was determined minutes earlier the school bus, driven by a 63 year-old Fairless Hills resident, was traveling northbound along the 100 block of Makefield Road when a silver Acura SUV, driven by 77 year-old resident of Newtown Township, who was traveling southbound along the 100 block of Makefield Road, drifted into then fully entered the northbound lane.

The driver of the school bus attempted to avoid a collision but was unable to as the SUV struck the driver’s side of the bus, causing disabling damage to both vehicles, Lt Chris Clark said.

The bus had no students on board and despite the collision, neither driver was injured, said Clark.

The preliminary determination is that the driver of the SUV fell asleep while driving, causing him to drift into the oncoming lane and strike the school bus, Clark said

Anyone with information is asked to contact Corporal Szamboti at (215) 302-3338, or via email at j.szamboti@fallstwppd.com

An email to school district officials on whether or not the school bus can be fully restored was not immediately responded to as of publication time.
