To help prevent tragedies and assist emergency services professionals during a potential crisis, the Falls Township Board of Supervisors authorized the addition of 12 cameras at Falls Township Community Park.

Citing last year’s near drowning at the park’s lake and previous reports of a capsized boat, the governing body voted 3-0 to award a $96,500 contract to Armour & Sons Electric Inc. to purchase and install a dozen cameras at the popular township park. Supervisors Jeff Boraski and Brian Galloway were absent.

Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence said Falls has seen “pretty significant instances” in recent years that warrant the need for cameras. Enabling township personnel and first responders the ability to view cameras remotely “will be a huge help” in acting quickly and determining specific locations should incidents occur.

“No one’s going to be monitoring these cameras 24/7,” Dence said.

The township tried adding cameras years ago, but hit snags. In 2019, Falls installed cameras at Quaker Penn Park to help reduce inappropriate behavior at the park.

In other business, the Supervisors granted preliminary and final land development approval to First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church to add a 3,456-square-foot building addition and a 3,200-square foot pavilion as part of a two-phase project
