Ever run a red light? STOP signs? Speed from Point A to Point B? CDL Drivers, ever take a 16-ton over a 12-ton limited road? Now’s the time to know the traffic laws because Falls Township is introducing a new approach to ensuring the safety of all when on the road.
The newly formed Falls Township Police Traffic Safety Unit (TSU), was announced by officials last week, is responsible for the targeted enforcement of traffic laws designed to increase the safety of the motoring public. The TSU is supervised by Sgt. Ray Fanelli, who is also celebrating 25 years with the South SWAT Team.
ROBIC and ENRADD technologies will aid the officers with enforcing speed zones on major roads. In partnership with Sgt. Matt Killeen, the unit will also conduct commercial vehicle inspections and enforce truck weight limits, according to public safety officials.
ENRADD is short for “Electronic Non-Radar Device.” This device is for speed timing by law enforcement officers. This company also assists police departments on how to properly use these devices, according to the ENRADD website.
The TSU will coordinate with the Accident Investigation Division -crash reconstructionists that are dedicated to investigating motor vehicle accidents that result in death or serious bodily injury- to target areas of the township where serious traffic crashes occur, police said.
The TSU willpost weekly educational information on the police department’s social media page to educate the public and increase everyone’s safety on our roads, officials said.
The Traffic Safety Unit will coordinate with PENNDOT as needed to suggest engineering changes when called for – addressing all traffic related concerns through enforcement, education and engineering, officials said.
