A 36-year-old Falls Township fire chief, is in jail after his 3-month-old infant daughter was sent to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where it was confirmed she had a skull fracture after he allegedly allowed her to fall to the ground

Brian Salt was arraigned Thursday by Judge John Galloway on charges of child endangerment, aggravated and simple assault. His bail was set at 10 percent $500,000.00 which he was unable to post and was remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility (BCCF).

According to the probable, cause, Falls Township Police were asked to respond  on March 12 to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for a report of an infant who suffered a skull fracture  Police  responded and spoke with the attending physician who advised that the infant had been transferred from their King of Prussia campus and had suffered a fractured skull caused by substantial force. Medical staff also noted bruising to the right lower leg and blood in her eye.

Police spoke with the child’s parents, Brian and (mother) Rebecca Salt. They relayed the following regarding their daughter’s injury; On March 11, Rebecca went to work at approximately 7:30 a.m. and left the infant daughter in her husband’s care. She did not observe any injuries or anything unusual about the child prior to leaving for work. police said in court papers.

From 7:30 a.m. until approximately 10 a.m., the infant was under the care and responsibility of her father (Brian Salt), Both parents described their infant as being a fussy baby and suffering from colic. When he could not console her from crying after the mother left, he brought her to his in-laws who live a short distance away. While there he noticed a large unexplained bump on the back of her head. After being instructed by their pediatrician, the daughter was taken to CHOP where the skull fracture was discovered. Neither parent could articulate how the injury occurred, according to the affidavit.

On March 20,  both parents arrived at the Falls Township Police Headquarters for a follow-up interview regarding the incident. The officer spoke with the husband alone in a secure interview room. The father was advised that he could leave at any time and that their conversation would be recorded. Brian Salt told police the following in summary:

On March 11, 2025 the child was left in his care while his wife went to work. The infant fell asleep on him for a short time however when she woke up, she was very startled. She immediately became fussy and inconsolable even after attempting to feed her. She remained in her swing for some time, crying. When she would not stop crying, he pulled her from the swing and after standing, he losther. When asked to clarify what he meant by lost, he stated that he intentionally let her fall to the ground striking her head. He said he had simply lost control over her uncontrolled crying. He knew immediately that he had caused an injury to her head. He then brought her to his in-laws and acted as if he had just discovered the injury and did not know how it occurred, police wrote in the probable cause.

Salt was arraigned by Thursday afternoon by Judge John Galloway on charges of child endangerment, aggravated and simple assault. His bail was set at $500,000.00 and unable to post 10%, he was remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility (BCCF).

Salt is currently scheduled to have a preliminary hearing that is tentatively scheduled for April 2.
