Middletown Twp. Standoff Comes to Safe End

A standoff between police and man in  Middletown Township came to safe close last night around just before 8 p.m Thursday night.

Law enforcement from the Langhorne Borough, Bucks County Sheriffs Office, Penndel Borough, Newtown Township, were on scene to assist Middletown Police Tuesday.

The standoff, according to a law enforcement official on the ground, began around 2 p.m. in the area of Gillam Avenue  and Humeville Road.

Bucks County Swat arrived on scene, as police attempted to engage the as yet unidentified man barricaded in a residence through a megaphone at a approximately 2:45 p.m. Subsequently police cordoned off the area between West Richardson and Gilliam Avenues on  Humeville Rd, not allowing through traffic while law enforcement negotiators tried to get the man to surrender peacefully.

One neighbor source told LBS police evacuated residents surrounding the where the man was located and directed others to “shelter in place. Meanwhile Neshaminy School District Buses dropping of children who live in the immediate area were redirected.

Negotiators were finally able to coax the man out around 8:30 pm when he peacefully surrendered.

As of publication time details about what led up to the barricade incident, the identity of the man and whether or not a criminal complaint will be filed is unclear, since attempts at obtaining that information have been unsuccessful as of early Friday morning.
