The hole a Levittown woman is digging for herself continues to get deeper as she was arrested with an accomplice late last week by Lower Makefield authorities who say Sherri A Jones-Shinn and Kevin J Hoffner stole at least $2000.00 worth of Verizon communication wires.
According to the probable cause an officer was flagged down by a witness, who was on the phone with Bucks County Radio, which advised of a red Ford F-150 was stopped on the side of Taylorsville Road. The witness said there was a whitłe male wearing a black shirt on the side of Taylorsville Rd cutting utility wires with a white women. They entered the pickup truck and speed off and pulled into the parking lot on Taylorsville Rd near Mount Eyre Rd. The witness wrote down plate number of the pickup providing the crucial information to police.
The responding officer said he observed a red Ford F-150 traveling south, with a white female driver and a male passenger with a bald head and mustache radioed his sighting to officers on patrol who subsequently conducted a traffic stop on the Ford, which displayed the Pennsylvania registration provided by the witness.
Located in plain view in the rear bed of the truck were dozens of four foot sections of braided utility wire, commonly used by Verizon as communication lines.
“There was wire on the ground and he wanted to grab it,” Jones Shinn told police in response to their initial inquiries during the traffic stop.
She gave police permission to retrieve her drivers license and in plain view, a vial filled with a powdery substance which police believed to be narcotics was located. She told police she uses percocets. The vile was taken and placed into evidence, the probable cause said.
Hoffner was placed into custody and transported to Lower Makefield Township Police headquarters, where he was read his Miranda rights and he agreed to speak with police. Hoffner said he was told about the utility wire by a friend, “Chuck” who said it had been there for months. Hoffner thought the property to be abandoned and cut the wire with fiskars he had brought with him intending to scrap the copper inside.
The Verizon district manager who responded to a call from police identified the wires as communications lines commonly used by the company. He said Hoffner would not have been granted permission to take the wires. The manager estimated the value of the wire more than $2000.00. Adding he would need to contact the company’s engineering department for an exact value of all the wires and property damage.
Jones-Shinn was charged with four theft related felonies and two related narcotics possession offenses. Hoffner was charged with four felony theft offenses and a related misdemeanor.
He was remanded to Bucks County Correctional unable to post bond. Jones-Shinn posted bond after spending three days in jail. The are both scheduled to appear in district court on October 15.
Weeks after pleading guilty to two counts of felony theft originating out of Middletown Twp, Shinn Jones and her husband were charged by Bristol Borough Police for using a corporate credit credit from a junk removal business, purchasing more than $3200 worth of merchandise. She also has another felony theft case in which Morrisville Police say Shinn-Joines of stealing 16 shopping carts from the Giant supermarket in Morrisville with another woman . That case is scheduled to go to trail in January of 2025.
