If you wondered what all the police activity and sirens were about on Old Lincoln Highway late Tuesday afternoon, a digital reader hit a license plate in Lower Makefield Township, resulted in the arrest of a New Jersey man  on a fugitive from justice charge.

On Tuesday at just after 4:35 p.m. Lt. Brian Omlor said officers observed a vehicle following a plate hit on Rt. 1 near the Oxford Valley Mall

While waiting to initiate the vehicle stop, a request to assist was made by the officer, which led to Falls Township Police units quickly racing up Old Lincoln Highway towards Rt 1 near Stony Hill Road and the stop was made, Omlor said.

The speedy response caught the attention of Lower Bucks Source as police units passed the N. Olds Blvd. Old Lincoln Highway intersection.

A series of red lights stopped, however, this news source’s effort to follow the in-process law enforcement effort to take the suspect into custody.

Omlor said there was some distance involved to coordinate the stop with the other police units, explaining why police units were darting up Old Lincoln Highway at the beginning of the evening rush home for motorists.

The suspect was arraigned by On-call Judge David J. Chichilitti who set bail at 10 percent of $700,000.00. Court records relevant to the suspect’s arrest are not currently available on the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania.

Omlor said the suspect was wanted on a gun charge by Trenton Police. He will likely be transferred to the custody of New Jersey authorities sometime next week.

Our officers did work and thanks to Falls Twp Police for the assist, the Lt said.

License Plate Readers continue to play an impactful role for law enforcement throughout Lower Bucks County for at least the last three years in stories published by this news organization.
