A Levittown site specializing in the treatment of co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues had a scary moment last week, when it was evacuated because a bomb threat was called into the facility, leading to the arrest of woman with a history of threatening and assaultive arrests
The threat was called into Steps to Recovery located at 1400 Veterans Highway, in the Levittown section of Middletown Township, last Wednesday at 9:20 a.m., police said.
Bucks County Police Radio Dispatch reported they received a phone call from a female reporting to be at the listed address with a bomb strapped her. She told dispatch, she put the bomb there and confirmed her location again. Dispatch then called the facility to obtain additional information after the origin al call was disconnected, according to court records. They then spoke with a representative of the facility who said they knew who the woman caller was and she was not on the treatment center’s property.
A second representative of STR, was able to provide a physical description of the woman suspected of making the bomb threat call, identifying her as 33-year-old Laura Thomas. Responding officers began searching for Thomas, meanwhile STR staff evacuated the facility, thus preventing the facility from providing recovery services to members of the community, the probable cause says.
Thomas was located just north of the facility on Veterans Highway moments later. Upon stopping and speaking with officers, Thomas acknowledged that she was one who made the bomb saying she “needed to be arrested.”
She was charged with one felony count of terroristic threats causing the evacuation of a building. She was released on unsecured bail with a hearing date scheduled for Nov 27.
This summer, Bucks County Rangers, in connection to a July incident, arrested and charged Thomas with three counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, and related offenses. That case remains active, according to online court records. Thomas pled guilty to terroristic threats causing a serious public inconvenience a little more than 10 years ago and has violence-related convictions since 2015. She is represented by Louis R. Busico, Esq, online court records show.
