Morrisville Borough Mayor Brud Anderson abruptly resigned his position citing personal and professional reasons, officials announced at Tuesday night’s Council meeting.
Council President Robert Paul made the announcement. Anderson, 51, submitted his resignation effective midnight Wednesday.
Paul said that he received an email from Anderson on Monday, which said he was resigning due to “several extremely unfortunate circumstances both personally and professionally.”
At the September’s council meeting ,Anderson sought the borough’s help with asking for a separate attorney to represent his Mayors office which fell on deaf ears apparently. He said he notified the manager and labor attorney.
“The Mayor needs someone to speak to for advice as well,” Anderson said. As of that September meeting Anderson, according to online court records, did not have an attorney of record representing him in his criminal case. It remains the case as of the publishing of this story.

Anderson was arrested in June after investigators said he allegedly fled the scene of an accident in April.
Police responded to the accident at North Delmorr and East Trenton avenues where a New Jersey woman said she was traveling south on Delmorr approaching the intersection when a black Sport-Trac attempted to turn left onto East Trenton Avenue from the northbound lane of Delmoor, according to charging documents. The front end of her SUV struck the front of the Sport-Trac.
A district judge held Anderson for trial last month on three charges, including accidents involving death or personal injury, a misdemeanor, after he failed to show up for his scheduled hearing. He is scheduled to appear for formal arraignment Friday.
Anderson, a Democrat, with just over two years left in his term, was elected in 2021.
Morrisville will be accepting nominations for the position through Nov. 10, officials said.
