File Image" Scam Alert

Bucks County Detectives are warning the public about the latest E-mail scam seeking victims in the area.

County detectives say the scam involves someone a culprit posing as a debt collector for a law firm that is threatening legal charges if a debt is not paid.

According to a release from the District Attorneys office a county resident received such an e-mail saying they owed a large sum of money for legal and attorney fees, and if the debt was not paid, the matter would be turned over to the ‘local sheriffs department’ and the recipients employer would also be contacted.

Investigators said the e-mail contains no legitimate contact information for a law firm.

Residents should never send money or provide access to your bank or credit card in response to threatening emails (or phone calls) you may receive claiming that you owe a debt. Also, never give any personal information, such as social security number, credit card, or bank account information to any individual, website, or company without first verifying their identity. If you have received a similar email, do not respond. Contact your local police local police department or Bucks County Detectives at 215-348-6354.
