The four day period of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend is a time where traffic accidents jump due to increased numbers on the roadways and alcohol.

So everyone can make it to the table this Thanksgiving and their families: Plan ahead and designate a sober driver before the first drink. Use public transportation, a taxi or a ride share service. Download NHTSA’s SaferRide mobile app available on Google Play for Android devices and Apple’s iTunes Store for IOS devices. SaferRide allows users to call a taxi or a predetermined friend, and identifies the user’s location so he or she can be picked up. If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact local law enforcement. Whether riding or driving, always wear your seat belt.

The National Safety Council every year predicts total traffic deaths for November 2022  total traffic fatalities for November 2022 to be 3,997 with 90 percent confidence, also forecasting there will be estimated 518 traffic fatalities from crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday period, nationwide.

Keep in mind Operation Safe Holiday, a law enforcement  effort  will have sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols, and regular traffic safety patrols involving State and local Police Departments.

According to PennDOT 2021 data, there were 472 crashes resulting in seven fatalities in the Philadelphia region during the Thanksgiving travel period beginning Wednesday, November 24, and running through Monday, November 29.

Please do all you can to get to family and loved ones safely this holiday weekend.
