A traffic stop by State Police in the Levittown section of Bristol Township Tuesday night became progressively worse for a 58-year-old local man who now finds himself behind bars facing felony drug charges and related offenses.
Norman Thomas, of Levittown was arraigned Wednesday by Judge Terrence Hughes on felony drug possession and distribution charges, traffic offenses and one tampering with evidence count.
According to the probable cause, at approximately 11:45 a.m., State Police was traveling west on Green Lane, north of Bristol Pike, in Bristol Twp, behind a vehicle, identified as a white 2004 Dodge Durango without a properly functioning/operating brake light. The State Trooper initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Green Lane and Pacific Ave.
Upon making contact with the operator, he provided a false name and information at first, but later confirmed to be Norman Thomas. Throughout interactions with Thomas, the State Trooper wrote in court papers, he observed indicators of criminal activity. Thomas, police said, gave consent to search the vehicle. The search yielded 17 pills of suspected oxycodone, five containers of suspected crack cocaine, one suspected crack cocaine rock, one container of suspected Phencyclidine (PCP), 25 empty containers of the same kind that the suspected crack cocaine was found in, and five razor blades.
Police took Thomas into custody and transported him to the State Police Barracks in Trevose. Upon arrival, Thomas was found to have an additional container of crack cocaine hidden on him, which he admitted to earlier. Once in the station, Thomas was observed attempting to conceal/destroy a pink pill, suspected to be oxycodone, the probable cause alleges.
The suspected illicit substances were submitted for testing analysis, court records show.
Thomas could not post the 10 percent of the $75,000.00 bail requirement resulting in being remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility with his next scheduled appearance currently set for October 8.
