NOVA, the leading non-profit organization in Bucks County supporting victims of serious crime, will hold two sessions of its Smarter Parents, Safer Kids workshop providing information and tools for parents and caregivers to learn about healthy child development, how to talk to children about sexual abuse, and how to keep them safe.
The first session will be held virtually on August 20 from 6 – 8 p.m. The second session will be held at NOVA’s Jamison office, located at 2370 York Road, Suite B1, on August 27 from 12 – 2 p.m. Click here to RSVP for either session.
Smarter Parents, Safer Kids helps parents and caregivers prepare for tough, yet important, conversations with their children about child sexual abuse prevention. It is designed to provide parents and caregivers with information on how to best communicate about prevention and learn ways to keep children safe. Participants will also receive a guidebook with detailed information for children of all ages, as well as tips and activity pages.
“While talking to children about abuse prevention can feel uncomfortable, these conversations are essential—and they need to happen more than once, ideally before kids hear inaccurate information from peers,” said Jamie Pfister, NOVA Training Coordinator. “Research shows that when parents and caregivers practice these discussions, they build confidence and make future conversations easier.”
Additional Smarter Parent, Safer Kids workshops will be scheduled throughout the year. Click here for more information on future workshops. In addition, NOVA can facilitate FREE workshops for places of worship, parent groups, organizations or schools.
