Bucks County Genealogical Society announces their Black History Month Program, open to the public, held in two parts.

Part one of “Go Stand Upon the Rock: A Family Story” will be held via Zoom on Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 am.

Dr. Samuel Lemon, Ed.D. will present the deeply moving story of his ancestors, runaway slaves who witnessed some of the most compelling moments in antebellum American history. It is a tale of unsettling plantation life, courageous women, dramatic Civil War battles, heroes and hoodoo, and the indomitable strength of the human spirit. Dr. Lemon complied his family history from oral history handed down to him by his maternal grandmother, Maud Ray Ridley Ortiga – the granddaughter of former runaway slave.

Registration for this program opens on Saturday, January 31, 2026 for both members ($5) and non-members ($10). A recording will be available for 30 days to BCGS members who register.

Then, on Saturday, March 7th from 11am to 3pm, we will be hosting part two, “Go Stand Upon the Rock: Research Challenges,” in person at the Irish Rover Station House,

The cost to attend will be $40 per person, for both members and non-members. Registration opens February 8th.

Complete information for both programs can be found at https://bit.ly/bcgs_programs.
