Earlier this fall,  $5,000 check contributed last year by the Bensalem Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) to the Bensalem Township School District, for students who are enrolled in full-year STEM classes this year at Snyder Middle School will enable learners access to the latest laser-cutter technology.

The equipment provides experiential learning opportunities that enable students to develop computer-guided design skills to create innovative wooden projects as part of the Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) section of the manufacturing unit in their Engineering course.

Students customize their projects based on their own interests and goals. Examples include etching photos onto wooden plaques, crafting ornaments and keepsakes, producing emblems, prototyping early engineering designs, and enhancing traditional woodworking projects with unique computer-generated details. With this investment, all three of the district’s secondary schools now have a laser cutter. In June of this year, the BEDC presented the district with an additional $2,000 to secure student educational resources.
