Sen. Frank Farry (R-6) announced a student essay contest inviting local high school students to participate in a historic statewide initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The contest is part of the America250PA celebration, which will culminate in a ceremonial celebration of the Pennsylvania Senate on May 5 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Each Senate district will select one student to represent their community and take part in the event which will highlight Pennsylvania’s role in the founding of the nation and inspire civic engagement among young people.

“This milestone anniversary provides an important opportunity for students to reflect on our nation’s founding principles and their relevance today,” Farry said. “I encourage students across our district to participate, share their perspectives and engage in this meaningful civic experience.”

Students in grades 9–12 who reside in the 6th Senatorial District are eligible to enter by submitting a 250- to 500-word essay responding to the prompt: “Which Founding Father or historical figure from the Founding Era do you find most relatable to you or find most inspiring and why?”

Essays will be reviewed through a blind judging process by a panel of community members, including educators, historians and civic leaders. Submissions will be evaluated based on understanding of the historical figure, personal connection, historical insight, use of evidence, organization and writing quality.

The selected student will attend the May 5 ceremonial session accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Essay submissions are due by Sunday, March 29, at 11:59pm. The winning student will be notified in early April.

Educators and school administrators are encouraged to share the contest with eligible students and support their participation.

Students interested in participating can find more information and submit their essays at SenatorFarry.com.

The 6th Senatorial District encompasses portions of Bucks County, including the townships of Bensalem, Lower Southampton, Middletown, Northampton, Upper Southampton, Warminster, Warrington, Warwick and Wrightstown, as well as the boroughs of Hulmeville, Ivyland, Langhorne, Langhorne Manor and Penndel.
