Familiar Face Returns as ‘Acting’ Superintendent with New Board Member Sworn in

A familiar face returns to the Bristol Borough School District as the board temporarily rehired former Superintendent Thomas Shaffer, Ed..D. and approved a new board member for the remainder of 2021

Shaffer, retired in 2019 as the districts chief administrator was appointed by the board to be the acting superintendent for the academic year. Shaffer’s start date is effective October 4 and by law he can only serve for one year in the “acting” role.

He will be paid $500  per day, minus pension obligations and insurance which will be a savings to the district of about $40,000.00 because he is retired, officials said.

Shaffer served as the Superintendent from 2014 to until 2018 and previously served the district as the elementary school principal beginning in 1990. He was not present at the meeting,.

In related news, Anthony “Tony” Smith was voted in Thursday night to fill the school directors position vacated by Nunzio DeMarchis last month

Smith was voted in by 5 to 2 margin over second nominated candidate Dorian Morgan,

District Justice Frank W. Peranteau Sr. swore in Smith right after the vote.
