Pennsbury Middle School Students Become Ill After Eating Edibles

Pennsbury School District officials said William Penn Middle School students ate THC-laced edibles on Thursday and became ill.

Pennsbury Schools Superintendent Thomas A. Smith sent an email to the middle school and high school community  families announcing the incident.

Smith said a “small number of students” allegedly ingested edibles laced with THC (the chemical component in marijuana) and became ill.

He said the school district immediately notified emergency services personnel.

The school district is seeing an increase in the use of vapes, vapes with THC, and edibles in the high school and middle schools, Smith said.

A similar incident took place at Bristol Borough High School recently. In that instance, sources said, three students became ill and were cited by police.

“Our student code of conduct clearly states that drugs are not permitted on school campuses and students will be disciplined accordingly,” Smith said in the email.

Smith said that each fall, the Pennsbury Parent and Family Academy provides presentations to families related to online harassment and substance use among teenagers.

The topics are also covered with students as part of our curriculum, he added.

“We recognize that these topics can sometimes be difficult to discuss, but we are committed to addressing the issues  facing our students and our schools,” Smith said.
