Bensalem Applies for DCED Grant to Beautify former Trifecta Property

The Bensalem Township Council voted unanimously to approve applying for a state Greenway Trails grant to be used at the former  Trifecta Sporting Club property the township now owns.

The grant is valued at $250K and will help develop an outside walking trail around the already existing soccer field, council members said.

The property was originally purchased by a developer who planned to build approximately 35 news homes but Bensalem officials condemned the property and claimed eminent domain, thus taking the property over to maintain it as an open space.

Then Council President Edward Kisselback  said at the time the move was made “specifically for the purpose of preserving parkland for recreation and open space.”

The site, located on Bristol Road in Trevose has long been used to hold sporting events.

The grant could be used to help fix a few of the fields and provide additional useable recreation space,  said members of council during Monday nights discussion about the grant application.

In October the township borrowed $5 million from its trust fund to purchase and improve the approximately 18-acre site.
