A popular and economical home cleaning product is being recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Colgate-Palmolive have announced a recall of 4.9 million bottles of Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaners.

Bottles may be contaminated with a Pseudomonas species of bacteria — either Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Pseudomonas fluorescens.

Both can be found in soil and water but can cause infection, especially in people with weakened immune systems, external medical devices or underlying lung conditions, according to the CPSC.

The recalled cleaning products have a lot code starting with 2348US78 through 2365US78, and 3001US78 through 3023US78. The lot code can be found on the bottle’s back, above the label. It can also be found directly above or at the top of the bottle.

Colgate-Palmolive said the cleaners were made from Dec. 14, 2022, through Jan. 23, 2023. Of the more than 4.9 million bottles produced, about 80% or 3.9 million bottles were not released for sale.

Dollar General, Family Dollar, The Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Walmart and other retailers, and online at Amazon.com, according to the CPSC, are the retailers in which the recalled bottles are sold.

If you have questions, call Colgate-Palmolive at 855-703-0166 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
