National Weather Service Issues Flash Flood and Heat Advisory Alerts

A Flood Watch and a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) over the next 24 hours.

The flood watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon until late at night with flash flooding continuing to be possible caused by excessive rainfall.

The flood watch will affect portions of east central, northeast, and southeast Pennsylvania, including Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, Delaware, Eastern Chester, Eastern Montgomery, Lower Bucks, Philadelphia, Upper Bucks, Western Chester and Western Montgomery Counties, said forecasters.

Another round of heavy showers and thunderstorms is expected late this afternoon through this evening. Storms will be capable of dropping a quick 1 to 2 inches of rainfall within a 1 to 3 hour period leading to flash flooding. Isolated amounts of 2 to 4 inches will be possible. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. according to the National Weather Service.

The heat advisory is in effect tomorrow, Thursday July 17 from 10 am to 8pm.

Heat index values up to 103 degrees are expected tomorrow, July 17 2025 in portions of northern Delaware, central, northern, southern New Jersey, and southeast Pennsylvania.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. NWS advises precautionary measures such as:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
  • Take extra precautions when outside.
  • Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing.
  • Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
  • Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1
