The National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mt Holly (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory in effect from Thursday 11 a.m. to Friday 8 p.m.
Heat index values on June 11 and June 12 are expected to reach 104 degrees. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses,
Forecasters say, some showers and thunderstorms expected later Thursday afternoon and again later Friday will provide some local relief from the heat, however it will still remain very humid, turning much less humid this weekend in the wake of a cold front.
NWS advises to use preventative measures as drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
If you do not have air conditioning in your home or lack shelter, you can call 211, or visit your county or state health department website for assistance locating appropriate shelter from the heat, said NWS.
