The cold weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. eastern standard time Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The cold weather advisory is in effect until mid-morning, January 31.
Forecasters predict very cold wind chills as low as 10 below expected in portions of east central and southeast Pennsylvania, central, northern, northwest, and southern New Jersey and central, northern, and southern Delaware, northeast Maryland. Much of the region, especially north and west of the I-95 corridor may not get above freezing through the first week of February.
The cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures, says meteorologists.
NWS officials advise the public to:
- Use caution while traveling outside
- Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves
- Keep pets indoors as much as possible
- Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors
- Ensure portable heaters are used correctly.
- Do not use generators or grills inside.
- Take steps to prevent frozen pipes.
