State Rep. Hogan Introduces Legislation Focused on Health, Affordability

Rep. Joe Hogan (R-Bucks) recently announced he is introducing two pieces of legislation focused on helping keep costs down and helping Pennsylvanians stay healthy.

The first piece of legislation would establish the Pennsylvania Physical Health Improvement Tax Credit (PA PHIT). This proposed tax credit would allow every Pennsylvania taxpayer to be eligible for a tax credit of up to $1,000 to offset the costs of gym and health club memberships, said Joe Szymanski, GOP media person.

Hogan’s second piece of legislation would create a tax credit of up to $3,000 to offset the costs of qualifying expenses related to youth sports, including equipment, travel costs and team fees, according to  Szymanski.  The credit would be available for costs for all levels of competition, ranging from competitive travel teams to friendly club play.

“Both pieces of legislation will hit on two issues I care deeply about – affordability and the health of Pennsylvanians,” said Hogan. “Youth sports are a huge avenue for children to create friendships and stay healthy, while gym and health club memberships can be a similar avenue for adults. The costs of these items have exploded in recent years though and are turning people and families away. My proposed legislation would help alleviate those costs and make these items more affordable once again.”

Both pieces of legislation are awaiting the assignment of a bill number and a committee.
