Borough Council Contributes to Christmas Parade with Check

Published

on

The holiday season is in the air as  Bristol Borough Council earlier this month showed its support for the annual Christmas parade by providing organizers with a check for $2500.00.

Parade organizers Denise Smith and Ellen Scancella were on hand to announce the date of the well loved long standing Bristol tradition, as they co-chair the parade committee.

Smith during the public comment said the holiday parade will take place on November 26, beginning at 1 pm with a rain date set for November 27, organizers said.

The parade path winds through the Borough beginning at Farragut Avenue and Cleveland Street and proceeds to Mill and Radcliffe Sts.

Groups can participate with parade floats by filling out an entry form that can be picked up at Borough Hall, 250 Pond St, during normal business hours, organizers said.

“Being a part of this parade is like a dream come true for me, because as a little girl I watched it with my family. And I think it’s so wonderful Ellen works so hard, almost single handedly with all the contributions from this community to make sure” the parade happens, Smith said.

Eastward Councilwoman Lorraine Cullen did the honors of presenting the check on behalf of Council to Scancella who is president of the parade committee.

Once again we would like to present a check for $2500.00 to Ellen for the parade, Cullen said.

“The kids of this town just love it” she said.

“Last year we had a few groups drop out. Hopefully this year it’ll be bigger and better than ever” Scancella said.

Council members made the point that last year’s parade had a number of “super political in nature” parade vendors and don’t want a repeat this year.

“Everything is political these days and I would like our hometown parade not be” said east ward Councilman Gregg Pezza.

“This is not a political event. It’s a holiday event.”

Parade vendors are to meet at 2207 Radcliffe Street at the guard house also by 9 am. Parade vendor fee is $35.

Volunteers and more float judges are needed, organizers said.

Those wanting to volunteer can meet in  the parking lot, the day parade beginning at 10 am. Those wishing to help can meet parade organizers at the guard house on Radcliffe St.

You can contact Ellen Scancella via e-mail  with any questions at ellentom40@aol.com or by calling her 215-789-0177.

Please make donations and payments payable to the Bristol Borough Parade.

Published

on

After a long winter, many people are now looking ahead to spring break travel. Whether your plans have you headed to the beach or traveling abroad, GIANT and MARTIN’S pharmacists are available as a resource with pre-travel health consultations and over-the-counter product suggestions.

“The same way you may enlist the expertise of a travel agent when booking your vacation, your local GIANT or MARTIN’S pharmacist also has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to ensuring you have the right vaccinations or health essentials ahead of your trip,” said Nick Koch, director of pharmacy and wellbeing, The GIANT Company. “From pre-health travel consultations to offering recommendations for the best sunscreens and first aid basics, don’t overlook the value that our team of pharmacists can bring to your vacation preparations.”

If your spring break plans have you traveling aboard, GIANT and MARTIN’S pharmacists can also get you adventure ready with a pre-travel health consultation approximately as soon as travel dates are confirmed and a minimum of one month before you leave. This includes vaccines, prescription referrals, and over-the-counter medications.

Vaccines* include but are not limited to yellow fever vaccine (available at select locations), typhoid vaccine and cholera vaccine. Prescription referrals include malaria prevention, traveler’s diarrhea prevention and care, motion sickness prevention and altitude sickness prevention. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit https://giantfoodstores.com/pages/pharmacy-services.

GIANT and MARTIN’S pharmacists advise that any prescription medication should always be packed in one’s carry-on bag, never in checked luggage, and preferably in the original container with the prescription label affixed. Be sure to bring enough for your trip as well as extra should there be any travel delays.

Travelers are also encouraged to pack a small first aid kit for on-the-go use. This should include bandages of various sizes, gauze pads, antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream, tweezers and a thermometer. Be sure to add over the counter pain relievers, antacids, decongestants, hand sanitizers and antibacterial wipes, too. Additional items may be needed based on one’s destination and weather.
