NWS Extends Heat Advisory, Issues Flood Watch, Air Quality Alert

If you were hoping some relief from the current oppressive heat wave today, don’t count on it.

Overnight the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory, a flood watch, and an air quality alert.

The heat advisory remains in effect from 8 a.m. this morning to 8 p.m. tonight. Heat index values of 95 to 100 are expected.

Temperatures and heat indices will not be quite as high today as they have been the past couple days.
However impacts are still expected especially given the long duration of high temperatures and humidity.

The flood watch is in effect from 2 p.m. this afternoon through Monday evening, NWS says.

Multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the area this afternoon through Monday.

Rain amounts of over 2 inches in an hour will be possible leading to areas of flash flooding, forecasters say.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has issued a code orange air quality alert Sunday for The Philadelphia Metro area.

A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children…people suffering from asthma… heart disease or other lung diseases…and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can
be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
