Despite rainy weather a group of volunteers came out last Saturday to the Silver Lake Nature Center in an effort to remove invasive plants and revive the centers meadow as part of grant awarded earlier this year.
A crew of volunteers removed just under 930 pounds of invasive plant life, filling 36 bags with one wisteria root measured to be 16.5 feet, Naturalist–Director of SLNC PattiAnn Cutter said. ‘
In July the SLNC was awarded a $2500.00 grant by the GIANT Company and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to pay for supplies for the project.

“Wow this amazing group of dedicated volunteers came out to help in the rain and we got so much done. We divided up into teams to cover different areas of the meadow. We were all so inspired to be a part of the meadow’s habitat restoration project and this will continue in the Meadow and into several other areas,” Cutter said.
All the work hoped to be completed was marred by the rainfall that drenched the area, she said.
Seven volunteers and three staff members came out to Cutter said adding we’ll be continuing the work on our next volunteer work day Sunday November 5, beginning at 9 am.
