2024 Paris – Huge Saturday for Team USA Capturing 18 Total Medals

The eight day of the Olympics was a massive and historic day for Team USA, Saturday, Team USA racked up 18 medals, Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky continued to add medals to their collection. 

The 18 medals won by Team USA are comprised of five gold, six silver and seven bronze. In the gold medal race, Team USA now has 14 golds, just two shy of China. Team USA is in second place, China in first and France in third.

In the overall medal count, Team USA still leads the pack with 61 total medals ahead of France with 41 medals.

Simone Biles, gymnastics, and Katie Ledecky, swimming, added gold to their medal collections.

Biles, 27 of Texas, added her gold when she executed on the vault and teammate Jade Carey, 24 of Oregon got the bronze in the same event.  Stephen Nedoroscik took bronze in the men’s individual pommel horse competition.

Ledecky, 27 of Florida, won her gold in the 800-meter freestyle swimming event for the fourth time, while teammate, Paige Madden, 25 or Texas, came in third, winning the bronze medal. Katie Douglass, 22 of Virginia, takes the silver in the 200m individual medley.

The U.S. swim team  set a world record in the 4×100 mixed medley relay. Ryan Murphy, 29, California, Nic Fink, 31 of Texas, Gretchen Walsh, 21 of Virginia,  and Torri Huske, 21, California, held off China and broke the world record set by Britain in 2020.

Sha’carri Richardson, 24 of Florida, gained a silver in the women’s 100-meter event, while Melissa Jefferson, 23 also of Florida, captured a bronze medal.  In the 4X400m relay mixed event, USA team had to settle for silver as Netherlands overtook them on the final lap. The USA team consisted 0f Kaylyn Brown, 19 of North Carolina,Vernon Norwood, 32 of Louisiana, Shamier Little, 29 of Arkansas, and Bryce Deadmon, 27 of Texas.

One-Two punch in shot put when Team USA took gold and silver when Ryan Crouser, 31 of Arkansas, won his third straight gold in shot put and Joe Kovacs, 35 of Ohio, took the silver.

In the men’s skeet event, USA shooter Vincent Hancock, 35 of Texas,  captured his fourth gold in the event edging out USA’s Conner Prince, 24, also of Texas, who got the silver. Hancock coaches first-time Olympian Prince. Hancock scored 58 shots to Prince’s 57.  The student almost defeated the teacher.

Jasmine Moore, 23 of Texas, won USA’s first women’s triple jump medal.

USA went two-three in men’s tennis doubles., capturing silver and bronze.

In rowing, Team USA bronze medal in the first men’s eight gold event.

USA basketball team has the top seed when the medal round starts.

In woman’s soccer, USA faces Germany on Tuesday trying to secure a spot in the final.
