After the sixth day of the Paris Olympics Team USA jumped four positions to land into the second place slot for gold medal count, close on the heels of China, who leads the gold medal race.
China is back at the number one spot with 11 gold medals but at the end of Thursday, USA leapt into second place with a total of nine gold medals. USA holds the title for most medals at 37 in the competition so far.
It was a Golden Thursday for the USA team winning gold in four events. Today,(Friday), there are 25 gold medal events up for grabs, lets see how far USA can go.
USA Highlights – August 1:
Katie Ledecky became the most decorated woman in Olympic history. Since her first Olympics, Ledecky has amassed 13 Olympic medals to her name. She has a total of eight gold, four silver and one bronze medals.
Simone Biles has nine Olympic medals in her lifetime. She is the fifth-most decorated female Olympic gymnast. She has six gold, one silver and two bronze medals during her career.
Katie Douglass got her first-ever gold medal! In the women’s 200m breaststroke, she also set an American record and finished just ahead of the reigning champion, Tatjana Smith, of South Africa.
USA Medal Recap for events – August 1:
In fencing, the USA woman’s team consisted of Lee Kiefer, 30 of Kentucky, Lauren Scruggs, 21 of New York, Jacqueline Dubrovich, 30 of New Jersey, and 21-year-old Maia Weintraub, who captured the gold in the Women team foil event.
Simone Biles, 27 of Texas, clinched another gold in the Women all-around event of Artistic Gymnastics. This makes the sixth straight games for an American to get the gold in the all-around. Her teammate, Suni Lee, defending all-around champion from the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, took bronze.
In Swimming, Katie Douglass, 22 of Virginia, took the gold in the Women 200m breaststroke event. In the Women 4x200m freestyle relay event, the USA woman’s team captured a silver for their effort. The team consisted of Claire Weinstein, 17 of Nevada, Paige Madden, 25 of Texas, Katie Ledecky, 27 of Florida, Erin Gemmel, 19 of Texas. Regan Smith, 22 of Texas, added another medal as she took silver in the Women 200m butterfly.
The men’s rowing team, consisted of Justin Best, 26 of California, 26-year-old Liam Corrigan, Michael Grady, 27 of California, and Nicholas Mead, 29, also of California, who received gold for the men’s four event.
