The Arden Theatre Company proudly announces that performances of King Hedley II will extend through end of March.
The show started previews on February 27 and will now run until March 30 at the theatre’s F. Otto Haas Stage on 40 N. 2 Second Street in Philadelphia. Opening night is Wednesday, March 5th.

An ex-convict battles overwhelming odds to rebuild his life in August Wilson’s gripping drama, directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning James Ijames.
The story of King Hedley II is set in 1985 and takes place in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, a neighborhood plagued by poverty and systemic racism even today. It portrays King Hedley II’s (Akeem Davis) struggle to rebuild his life despite the limited opportunities afforded to him following his release from prison, according to the synopsis.
As a result of his desperate need to provide for his wife, Tonya (Taysha Marie Canales), Hedley dreams of opening a video store. The synopsis goes on to say that with few legitimate paths to success, he has to make a choice between pursuing his dream the right way or taking desperate measures to survive. People in Hedley’s life, including his mother, Ruby (Kimberly S. Fairbanks), his business partner and friend Mister (Dax Richardson), his neighbor Stool Pigeon (Monroe Barrick), and Elmore (Kash Goins), a man from Ruby’s past, influence his journey.
