Bensalem Township Council voted and approved to appoint new members for the Zoning, Economic, and Environmental boards at their council meeting on Monday night.

The string of decisions started with a motion to authorize a second alternative member to the zoning board. Council Solicitor Joseph Pizzo stated that the move was made to help add some flexibility to the zoning board if a member might be absent.

“For many years, the township operated with just the five members of the zoning board who serve for five years,” he said.

“The township has found that it’s been a successful endeavor having the alternative member. What was happening is sometimes if there was fewer than five members on the board, an applicant might want to postpone the hearing until all five members was present,” Pizzo explained.

The zoning board recommended to administrations to add a second alternative to the board who will serve three years and be present in the case of any members being absent.

The motion was approved, followed by said member, Matthew Trzaska being sworn in.

Following that was Adam Weltz PhD, who would be serving out the rest of the term of Economic Board member.  Michael Cook resigned recently officials said.

Lastly was Katie Fisk for the Environmental Board. Before being sworn in, Council President Edward Tokmajian Jr. thanked the board for all they had done, and looked forward to having Fisk on the board.

“Since the advisory board started this year they have devoted a significant amount of time and investment in really creating value for the board, so we greatly appreciate it. I know they were continuing to approach us about adding Katie Fisk at some point for the board. I recognize the experience you have and I think you’d be a great asset to the board.” Tokmajian Jr. said.

It was also noted that it was Fisk’s birthday on the 22nd.
