Bensalem Township Council Move Forward With Proposed Changes To Responsible Contractor Ordinance

Bensalem Township Council voted to move forward with making amendments to the townships Responsible Contractor Ordinance (RCO).

The decision came at the township’s meeting on Monday, March 23, but was first brought up at the council’s meeting on Jan. 12. 

Township Solicitor Joseph Pizzo explained that the proposed amendment will now ask that 70% of employees on a contracted project to the township be a journeymen, have successfully completed a Class A apprenticeship, or are currently in a Class A Program for the trade they are employed in.

The new amendment will also require that employees of a contracted project in Bensalem who are offsite also follow these requirements. 

“The best example I can give is the mechanical contractor for the job is having duct work done off site, the workers doing that work off site also have to follow the townships RCO.” Pizzo stated. 

Training and safety requirements have also been updated to require that all of the craft workers on the job have to have completed at a minimum 10 hours of the OSHA construction training course, while supervisors have to complete the 30 hour OSHA construction training course.

Bensalem’s Council voted all in favor to moving forward with the proposed amendments to the current RCO.
