State Representative Joe Hogan is extending an invitation to attend a bridge dedication ceremony in late October for Lance Corporal John F. Muffler.
Muffler was among 241 killed in the Marine Corp Barracks bombing at the Beirut Embassy on Oct 23, 1983. He and his company of marines were on a peacekeeping mission in Beirut, Lebanon; in the early morning hours that day, a truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security perimeter of the USMC Barracks in a terrorist attack, according to the Meta page by organizers, Penndel Hulmeville Memorial Day Parade Committee, Inc. He was a 1981 graduate of Neshaminy High School and a resident of Langhorne Manor.
The Pennsylvania Route 413 Bridge over U.S. Route 1 in Middletown Township will be renamed the Lance Corporal John F. Muffler Memorial Bridge in his honor.
State Senator Frank Farry and Hogan both introduced a resolution in the state House and Senate to formally dedicate the bridge earlier this summer, their language was included in an omnibus package of other dedications, said Hogan on his socials.
The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Oct 24, 2024 starting at 11 a.m. at Wood Services in Langhorne.
Directions for the ceremony are as follows; Enter from Rt. 413 (Pine St.) Once you enter the campus at the intersection of Meadowood Drive and Woods Drive, please make a left and the ceremony and parking will be on the grass field immediately on your left, according to the Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce.
