- Supervise Children Closely: Drowning can happen in seconds and often silently. Always designate a water watcher and stay focused.
- Wear a Life Jacket: When boating or enjoying local waterways, always wear a life jacket. It could save a life.
- Be Aware of Currents: The Delaware River and other local waterways can have strong currents. Always enter unfamiliar water feet first and never swim alone—take a buddy!
- Secure Your Pool: If you have a pool, make sure it’s fenced and secure to prevent unsupervised access.
- Avoid Excess Alcohol and Drugs: Alcohol and drugs impair judgment and coordination, significantly increasing the risk of water-related accidents.
- Call 911 for Emergencies: If you see someone in distress in the water, call 911 immediately for emergency assistance.
