A Bristol Township man apparently unable to control his hands and temper during a verbal altercation with his girlfriend endangered her and four children last Wednesday evening when he attacked her while she was driving allegedly grabbing the steering wheel trying to crash the vehicle, police say.
On October 15 at approximately 8:08 p.m., the Bristol Township Police were dispatched to the area of Liberty Gas Station, 3700 Bristol-Oxford Valley Rd, for an active domestic incident between a male and female which was physical, police said in court papers.
Upon arrival, the Bristol Township Police Officers made contact with the female victim.
The victim told responding officers she was driving her vehicle on Bristol Emilie Rd when an argument started between her and her boyfriend, Richard Groom, 43 of Fairless Hills.
The argument quickly became am attack she reported as she was driving with Groom allegedly punching her in the face.
She alleged the violent escalation continued telling police Groom grabbed the steering wheel attempting to cause the vehicle wreck, with the four children in the vehicle while it was in motion.
In speaking with Groom, he reported that he was attacked and received several scratch marks to his face, police said in court papers
Groom admitted to punching the victim in the face, but stated it was in self defense, according to the probable cause.
Officers spoke to one of the minor passengers, who reported that Groom struck the victim and that she was acting in self defense trying put an end to the assault.
On-Call District Judge Michael W. Gallagher arraigned Groom four counts child endangerment, and a single count of simple assault remanding him to the custody of Bucks County Correctional Facility as he was unable to post 10 percent of $150, 000.00 bail.
He is due back in court on October 28 to answer to the charges.
